LENTEN Small Group Studies
7pm in Lounge

Gospel Portraits of Jesus: A Lenten Study
Beginning February 18, for 6 weeks
Think of Jesus, and you have an image that got there a long time ago. But everyone’s Jesus is a little different, and    that was true for the gospel writer’s, too. Meet Jesus again for the first time, and then again, and again. There’s much to know.

The Challenges to Democracy
Beginning February 23, for 2 weeks
King George III was just the beginning of the challenges America would answer with its fight for democracy. We have challenges still, and Christians should address them.

Wednesdays with Josh
Beginning February 24, for 6 weeks
Enjoy the mind and musings of Josh McCrossen for another series of conversations about what matters in the world and what good you can do for it.

Tipoff! The Ethics of College Sports
March 1
Start March Madness with a slightly penitential reflection on how the multi-billion dollar college sports industry works and why people of faith care. (Leave your NCAA bracket at home)

Biblical Accounts of the Crucifixion
Beginning March 16, for 2 weeks
There really was a Jesus, and really was executed on a cross. There is even secular witness to that. Then there are the gospels, and each cast the story individually, highlighting differing shades of meaning and truth. Great grist for Lent, here.

“Gilead”
March 30
Marilynne Robinson’s Pulitzer Prize winner turned the heads of critics and readers with a plain story about a dying Iowa Methodist minister writing to his young son of his young wife, wanting the boy to know what the man won’t live to teach him. Charming, beautiful, brimming with hope and grace.

A special thank-you to the Bonnie & Thurlow Hammond, Nancy Heidrick, Jim & Arlene Fagner, Dorla Seeley, Rick and Dena Chapman, Stan & Shirley May, Josh McCrossen for supporting Jeanne and Paul Salisbury in their 45-mile ride for the Wayne County Habitat for Humanity.  Donations supporting the Salisbury's ride totaled $285.  A total of twenty-one riders participated in the long and short rides with donations of approximately $2100.  Jeanne and Paul reported the ride went smoothly in spite of periods of light rain.  See two pictures: 1) Jeanne assessing the map of the bike-a-thon route before departure. 2) picture of Paul & Jeanne taken at the rest stop in front of the Clifton Springs YMCA, the halfway point for the ride.
